digging through old files & found this album art collab again…
i was going through some of my old folders the other day (you know… the ones you swear you’ll organize someday 😭) and i stumbled on this album art i made for this indie track back in 2022. and i just kind of… paused.
because it’s one of those pieces i hadn’t looked at in a while, but instantly remembered the feeling of making it.
there’s something really special about collaborating with someone, specifically for music they made! it’s about taking note of the artist's vision (shout out to Raffy Diaz!), mixing “what looks good” and having a feel for what the track feels like. i listened to the track on repeat, trying to translate sound into something visual — figuring out colors, textures, and the overall mood that felt right.
this was also during a phase where i was exploring more with texture and composition, letting things be a little imperfect, a little raw. i think you can feel that in the final piece — it’s not overly polished, but it feels honest.
the track -- Midnight Coffee
“Midnight Coffee” is super chill! definitely one of those tracks you let play in the background and suddenly you’re in a whole mood.
a bit about the process
i admit, i overthought this one a lot. the lo-fi art style isn't really what i'm used to so it was more intuitive than anything — following the tone of the music and letting that guide the direction of the album art. i remember focusing a lot on mood rather than detail, which is funny because that’s something i still come back to now.
looking at it again, i can see little hints of what i naturally gravitate toward: softness, texture, a slightly dreamy quality. it’s interesting to notice how those things have stayed, even as my work (and medium!) has evolved.
looking back...
it’s easy to forget the things you’ve made once you move on to the next project. guess that's life in general! but it's a pretty cool snapshot of how things were, how i was, and what my art was like back then.
if you’re into chill, late-night vibes, you can check out more of Raffy's music on Spotify.
also if you're another artist -- hmu if ever you wanna collab, who knows
